SWITCH 2024: The Evolving Landscape for Quantum Startups

Our VP of Product Amanda Chew took the stage at the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) to explore “The Evolving Landscape for Quantum Startups” in a panel.

Past

The event was held from 28 to 30 October 2024 in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Amanda Chew was joined on the panel at SWITCH by Christophe Jurczak of Quantonation, Prof Dimitrios Angelakis of AngelQ Quantum Computing, and Prof Andrew Dzurak of Diraq. She offered her perspective on how the landscape for quantum startups is evolving.

Early investment: Singapore invested early in fundamental quantum technology research with the establishment of the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) nearly 20 years ago, so there has been high-quality research and strong talent in the region for quite a long period of time.

Uniquely Singapore: A distinctive aspect of the Singaporean market is the limited number of direct competitors, with only a handful of quantum computing companies operating in the country. This smaller industry landscape, combined with a strong emphasis on intellectual property (IP) protection, reduces the risk of knowledge leakage when employees transition between companies.

Global access: Horizon Quantum’s strategic expansion to Dublin with the establishment of our EU headquarters allows for better access to the EU and UK markets, including the diverse talent pool across that region.
