Future Investment Initiative: Can Deep Tech Investment & Innovation Enable a More Global Future?

Our CEO Dr Joe Fitzsimons was at FII8 in Riyadh to speak on a panel about deep tech advancements and the progress the quantum computing industry has made in 2024.

Past

The FII (Future Investment Initiative) is a global conference held annually in Saudi Arabia, focused on fostering discussions and partnerships around investment opportunities, innovation, technology, and sustainable economic growth, attracting global leaders, policymakers, and investors.

Our CEO Dr Joe Fitzsimons shared the stage with Klaus Hommels of Lakestar, Daniel Metzler of Isar Aerospace, David Ulevitch of Andreessen Horowitz and Xenia Wickett of Wickett Advisory. The discussion centred on the implications of deep tech, particularly in infrastructure and the economy. Joe Fitzsimons noted significant progress in quantum computing, with over 1,100 qubits and breakthroughs in error correction.

“On the 27th of August of this year, we saw the first demonstration of error correction for the first time, where it's multi-round error correction, detecting an error, correcting it, and repeating the process over and over again, and getting better performance out of the chip as a result,” said Joe Fitzsimons. “So we're only kind of eight weeks post that. We're really entering a new regime for quantum computing. I'd say we're still about three years from seeing really useful quantum computers, but we're definitely moving and moving very quickly.” - Dr Joe Fitzsimons.
